Obituary for Minnie Lee Moore (aka “Babe”) Minnie Lee Moore was known to all who knew and loved her as “Babe”. Babe was a strong, God-fearing, hard -working, dependable, trustworthy and caring woman. She had a huge heart and a deep love a love for family and friends. She was born in rural Mississippi in 1933 to her parents Leannie and AJ Moore. She moved to California with her family, ready to make new roots in Berkeley, California. She attended Claremont Middle School and finally graduated from Berkeley high School in 1951. Soon after graduating high school, she began working for the Department of the Navy on Treasure Island as a Payroll Technician, writing checks for men and women serving in the Navy. She loved her job and was given many awards and accolades for her hard work, dedication and attendance to her profession. She worked for the Department of the Navy for a total of 43 years before retiring with an unbelievable amount of unused sick days left She was such a beautiful woman with a huge smile, a witty sense of humor, a keen sense of style, and a passion for styling and maintaining the hair of her family and friends, using her famous “hot comb”. She had most of the women in the family in that infamous kitchen chair on Saturday’s to get their “press and curls”, so they would be in her own words “fried, dyed and laid to the side”! Babe was also one of Dr. M.T. Thompson’s personal secretaries at Berkeley Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and he was always a close friend of the entire family. She was also an avid San Francisco 49ers fan. On Sunday’s after church, the football game was always on the television and she was rooting for her 49ers. She also enjoyed visiting and wagering on the horse races at Golden Gate Fields. She was skilled at picking the winners! One thing that she was most passionate about was her family. She took great care of her mother Aunt Leannie and she never left her mother’s side. She was never the same after she passed away in 1996. In addition to dutifully caring for her mother, she also took great care of her loving daughter Donna. After Donna had her own children; Donnisha and Donntay, Minnie devoted her life to them, as well as her nephew Demariel who she proudly named “Bo”. They soon became her world and she would do anything to help make sure the kids were well taken care of. Education was of vital importance and she made sure that anyone in her care had to hit the books and study. Minnie lived a long, vibrant and loving life. She leaves behind her loving daughter Donna, her granddaughters; Donnisha and Donntay, her first cousins; Dezzie, Hilyard and Lezell Jr., her many nieces; Denise, Cynthia, Stephanie, Karen, Michelle, and Tasha. Her nephews; Ronald, Andre, Jamal, Michael and Myron. She also left many friends and family in Christ. Our mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt, and our friend is gone, but will never be forgotten. Until we meet again, Rest in Peace Babe.
